Fan base

Part of the ambiance of Valona is that we sit on the screened in porch and "visit."

That porch has been witness to almost every memory we have of time at Valona, it's our resting place. With the sound of the ocean moving in and out of the marsh grass, the sight of the shrimp boats moving slowly, majestically in and out of their slips, and the bird watching - including the rooster who crows all hours of the day and night - the porch has been the focal point of our living area.

But this visit it's been really, really hot. And really, really sticky. And the fan on the porch was a wee bit wilted from the start.
So yesterday my sister and brother-in-law went to town and got some ceiling fans for the outside porch. The sweltering heat and the look and low air movement of the wilted fan blades made a change seem like a good idea to all of us.

The problem is that the fans don’t just magically pop out of the box already assembled and ready to go. The solution is that we have a house full of “men folk” who were up to the challenge.
So today they located the electrical panel and turned off the electricity, removed rusted screws and wilted fan blades, balanced precariously on chairs and took a jillion photos of the process in order to create a stop animation film of the whole adventure.

The film was the artistry aspect of their personalities coming out.

In true traditional roles spirit, my sister baked cookies and made lemonade.

At the end of a short period of very hot, sweaty, humid work, the fan was installed, no one was injured, and cookies were consumed.

It even works! Thank you, Lord, the fan works!

After all this excitement, my man folk decided that a nap was in order.
I can’t blame him. And there’s nothing that screams photo opportunity like a Daddy snuggled around his sleeping baby.
